Shang Tai Chi Online

Learn Tai Chi Online

Want to learn Tai Chi but also understand what you are doing? Start with the foundations, learn at your own pace and see how each principle connects to the wider art.

What the online course covers

The course begins with Foundation training and develops progressively. Early lessons focus on posture, breathing, relaxation, balance, weight transfer, stepping, coordination and foundational movement before increasingly connecting those principles into Tai Chi.

The same foundations connect to Capability for Life™, Shang's framework for understanding progress beyond simply remembering the next movement.

Clear instruction

Plain-English teaching first, with traditional terminology introduced when it helps deepen understanding.

Principles, not just choreography

Learn what makes the movement Tai Chi rather than simply copying the outward shape.

Practice that fits real life

Use Micro Tai Chi and guided practice to reinforce principles between longer sessions.

Capability for Life™

What are you investing in when you practise Tai Chi?

You are not learning to keep up with somebody else or chase a grade. The aim is to understand what you are practising, notice what changes for you and connect that progress to everyday movement and confidence.

Sun and Yang style pathways

The course begins with common Tai Chi foundations before introducing style-specific material. Sun style supports Shang Tai Chi’s specialist focus on adaptable practice, balance, arthritis and falls prevention. Yang style provides another traditional pathway and includes widely practised material such as the Simplified 24 Form where appropriate.

Learning a widely practised Yang-style form can also make Tai Chi more social, helping students recognise familiar movements when they encounter community groups, park practice or other classes.

Who it is for

The online course is designed for adult beginners and developing students. Practice can be adapted through smaller movements, supported standing or seated options where appropriate.
