You do not need to wait until movement becomes difficult.
Tai Chi can be a practical investment in the balance, coordination, mobility and confidence that support an active life. You do not need previous experience, unusual flexibility or a high level of fitness to begin.
Shang Tai Chi welcomes adults of all ages. This pathway is specifically for people from midlife onward who want thoughtful instruction connected to the activities and independence they value.
Balance and stepping
Explore posture, weight transfer, foot placement, turning and controlled movement progressively.
Mobility and coordination
Develop comfortable whole-body movement at an appropriate range and pace.
Calm and confidence
Use breathing, relaxation, attention and repeated practice to reduce unnecessary tension.
Tai Chi that adapts to the person.
Where appropriate, practice can use smaller movements, slower progression, supported standing or seated alternatives. The purpose is not to remove the Tai Chi principles, but to make them accessible at a suitable level.
Tai Chi should adapt to the person, not require the person to fit Tai Chi.
Understand what you are practising.
Rather than only copying a sequence, you learn why posture, relaxation, weight transfer, coordination and intention matter. Those principles are practised through forms, Qigong, focused exercises and short Micro Tai Chi practices that can fit into daily life.
