1. About this policy
James Shang trading as Shang Tai Chi™ (ABN 44 628 946 652) respects your privacy. This policy explains the kinds of personal information we may collect through this website, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, and the choices available to you.
Australian privacy obligations can depend on the nature and size of a business. Whether or not every provision of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies to Shang Tai Chi at a particular time, our intention is to handle personal information responsibly and transparently.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the website, we may collect information you choose to provide, including your name, email address, telephone number, enquiry details, interests in Shang Tai Chi programs, registration source and the date and method by which you consented to receive communications.
Our website and hosting services may also process ordinary technical information such as IP address, browser/device information, server logs and security data. If analytics, payment, membership, video or other third-party services are introduced, this policy should be updated to describe those services and their data practices.
Please do not send sensitive health or medical information through the general contact forms. If a future program genuinely requires health information for safety or participation, we will use an appropriate collection process and explain why that information is required.
3. Why we collect information
We may use personal information to respond to enquiries; administer course registrations, online membership or other programs; provide requested information or services; maintain records of marketing consent; communicate operational information; improve the website and services; and meet legal, security and administrative requirements.
4. Email updates and marketing
We only use the website registration forms for marketing where the person has provided the required consent. Marketing emails should identify Shang Tai Chi, provide valid contact details and include a clear way to unsubscribe. You may withdraw marketing consent at any time using the unsubscribe facility in an email or by contacting us. We will action unsubscribe requests in accordance with applicable Australian spam laws.
The general contact form is for responding to an enquiry. Submitting a contact enquiry does not, by itself, subscribe you to marketing.
5. How information is stored and disclosed
Website enquiries and mailing-list registrations may be stored within the WordPress website. Course registration and access information may also be processed by services used to operate the online course. Information may also be processed by service providers used to operate the website and business, such as web hosting, email delivery, security, analytics, membership, payment or customer-management providers when those services are connected.
We do not sell mailing lists or personal information. We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to service providers acting for us, where required or authorised by law, or where necessary to protect the security or lawful operation of the business.
6. Overseas processing
Some technology providers may store or process information outside Australia. The countries involved depend on the providers used. Where relevant, this policy will be updated to identify material overseas processing arrangements.
7. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps appropriate to the website and services to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No internet or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably required for the purposes for which it was collected, legitimate business record-keeping and applicable legal requirements. Marketing records may be retained as necessary to record consent and unsubscribe status.
8. Access and correction
You may ask what personal information we hold about you or request correction of information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. Contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before providing access or making a correction.
9. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us with details of your concern. We will review the issue and respond within a reasonable period. If the Privacy Act applies and you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
10. Cookies and third-party services
WordPress, hosting, security and embedded services may use cookies or similar technologies necessary to operate the site. Before optional analytics, advertising or tracking technologies are enabled, the site's cookie disclosures and consent approach should be reviewed and updated where required.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Shang Tai Chi develops or our technology, services or legal obligations change. The current version will be published on this page with its updated date.
